A Bodysex workshop can transform how you feel about your body and your orgasm. You’ll share your sexual self with specific rituals and discussion in a safe and supportive circle of women/vulva-owners. Workshop participants are nude, enabling us leave shame about our bodies and sexuality behind. A Bodysex circle creates a sisterhood that helps us learn from each other while healing shame and celebrating pleasure.
Day 1 – You’ll be asked to remove your clothes when you arrive and sit in the circle. We begin with some deep breathing exercises to help us relax then participants introduce themselves to the group. After introductions, we each share our answers to these questions: How do I feel about my body? How do I feel about my orgasms? Next comes the ritual of Genital Show and Tell. With the support of the workshop leader and the group, each woman will take a turn in front of the mirror to view the parts of her sex organ and appreciate its beauty. We’ll also look at Betty’s vulva sketches and anatomical diagrams. The session closes with a final discussion and sharing.
Day 2 – After removing your clothes, you’ll join in the circle. The session will begin again with deep breathing followed by by individual sharing: How are you feeling? What did you do last night? Betty’s Rock and Roll Orgasm technique with Betty’s Barbell and the Magic Wand will be demonstrated followed by individual practice. Additional masturbation techniques will be shared. The ritual of Erotic Recess gives time for self-pleasuring, using whatever technique feels comfortable. Feeling pleasure is the goal, so it’s perfectly fine if you don’t reach orgasm. Group massage follows erotic recess, allowing each of us to receive compassionate, non-sexual touch. The session closes with a final sharing in the circle.
I recommend viewing Betty’s Dodson’s Bodysex Workshop documentary to learn more about the workshop and its rituals.
Many women/vulva-owners have been raised to feel shameful about their genitals and sexual desires. Our physical self-worth and pleasure are controlled by social norms that deny our birthright to feeling good about our bodies, having satisfying orgasms, and owning our sexuality. Bodysex is designed to heal shame, enhance self-esteem, and enrich our orgasms. Recent research conducted by Dr. Lisa Meyers provides evidence that participation in a Bodysex workshop improves body image and sexual enjoyment.
How was Bodysex developed?
In the early 1970’s, Betty Dodson began holding Sexual Conscious Raising Groups for feminists. Betty believed that women having independent orgasms would build independent thoughts and feminism. Using the CR group model of sharing experiences in first person, women could learn from each other about how to improve their own orgasm and sexual enjoyment. Through these experiences, Betty discovered common themes and developed rituals to support sharing. Her approach evolved into the Bodysex method.
Who may attend Bodysex Workshops?
Women/vulva-owners of any age or sexual orientation are welcome. As long as you have a vulva/vagina, Bodysex is for you.
Can I attend if I’m pregnant?
What about if I’m post-menopausal?
What if I’m on my period?
Definitely! You can use a tampon, a sea sponge or a menstrual cup for genital show and tell and erotic recess.
What if I have a yeast infection?
No problem! Just use some over-the-counter Monistat or other treatment prior to attending.
What should I bring?
Everything that you need for the workshop, including water and snacks, will be provided. However, feel free to bring anything special that you might want, such as a preferred snack food or a favorite sex toy. If you have your own Magic Wand and Betty’s barbell, feel free to bring them as well.
Can I keep the Magic Wand that I use in the workshop?
Yes! The rechargeable Magic Wand is included in the workshop fee. The barbell used in the workshop is easily sterilized and reusable. If you like Betty’s Barbell, you can purchase one here. If you are bringing your own Magic Wand, please contact Laura for reduced workshop rate.
Will snacks will be provided?
Yes! Bottled water will always be available. An afternoon snack with cheese, organic strawberries, cookies, and chocolate will be served. There will be gluten free options. If you have special dietary restrictions, please specify when you register for the workshop.
What if I don’t orgasm?
No worries! Orgasm is not the goal. Our focus is to heal body shame, learn some new techniques for masturbation, and experience sisterhood. If you experience an orgasm, great! If not, that’s okay too.
Why are workshops done in the nude?
A negative body image is very common among women in our society. We don’t see a range of real body types in television, movies and media. Nudity in the Bodysex circle allows us to see a range of normal bodies. When we are able to spend time in our bodies without clothing, we literally become more comfortable in our own skin. Your registration and attendance at a Bodysex workshop indicates that you consent to participate in the nude.
Will I be touched?
Nonsexual touch is a comforting part of the Bodysex sisterhood. Examples include but aren’t limited to: holding hands in the circle, an arm around shoulders during genital show and tell, touch during group massage, or a group hug at the end of the day. Any touch that is intended to produce a pleasure response will be done with your own hands. Your registration and attendance at a Bodysex workshop indicates that you consent to participate in nonsexual touch during a Bodysex workshop. If you feel uncomfortable with touch at any time, please speak up and withdraw your consent.
What is your refund policy if I register but cannot attend?
Your $200 deposit is nonrefundable but can be applied to a future workshop taken in the next two years following your registered workshop. Any remaining funds paid will be refunded if cancellation is made prior to the start of the workshop.
